After moving
to Santa Cruz from Salt Lake City
in 1983, Kathy McClure became the first employee of Borland International,
a Computer software company in Scotts Valley, CA. She spent the next seven
years as Customer Service Manager, where she introduced many innovative
support policies. In 1990, Kathy left this challenging career to follow
a lifelong dream. For the next four years, she attended college and graduated
Phi Beta Kappa from UC
Berkeley in 1994 with a degree in Anthropology.
Kathy returned to Santa Cruz and got a job as
Office Manager with another startup software company that was creating
software for the Internet. In this capacity, she was able to greatly
enhance her knowledge of the increasingly popular Internet. Although
working with the software engineers was fun and rewarding, the lure
of becoming her own boss was stronger. In February, 1996, Kathy left
Wollongong to start Computer Helper, a computer consulting firm
dedicated to helping people learn to use their computers more effectively
and efficiently. In addition to her consulting business, Kathy taught
computer classes at Cabrillo
College and is currently teaching at OfficeStar
Training in Salinas & Watsonville. She is a Quickbooks
Professional Advisor and a consultant with the Small
Business Development Center.
Kathy has combined her years of customer service
experience with her software and internet expertise to create a successful
business, dedicated to helping her customers acquire, in a patient and
supportive environment, the computer skills they need to succeed in
this fast paced world.
